A taxi driver had a lucky escape after his cab was crushed when a derrick used for piling work toppled over in Bangkok.

Pictures showed the crushed yellow and green taxi and power lines all over Pahonyothin Soi 54.

One property was also damaged.

Daily News said the accident happened near the PTT gas station behind a local hospital.

Traffic was severely affected in the area around lunchtime yesterday.

An investigation into the cause of the collapse is underway.

The brakes failed

Wrong, it breaked, many thins.

The coloured plastic string securing the crane must have snapped.

I have seen lots of items on Thai news about cranes falling over. Each time I have wondered whether there was a load on the hook at the time, or if it’s just standing idle.

If it’s lifting something, it’s quite possible that the weight of the load had been misjudged and the operator sent the load too far out on the boom causing it to unbalance. That would indicate a lack of training on the part of the crane driver and the crew.

If it’s just sat there doing nothing and fell over, there must be a serious structural defect either in the crane itself, or the grounding. That would require a serious investigation into the safety of the crane, the way it’s manufactured, and the people who installed it.

It's Ok I believe in the tooth fairy too!!!!!!!

Must be where Eric Clapton got the idea for Derek and the Dominoes.

One pylon goes over and the rest follow. Yet from the picture it looks like only one other fell over. Health and safety is getting better.

They have used the wrong glue to stick it down.i could of told them silicone don't work.

Fortunately, the electrical wires had not yet been buried.
