just like the only people ever being able to resist the Romans, remember; Ceasar; the Belgian people are the bravest of all; Vincentorius, the only one ever to concur 3 Roman legions,

If you mean Vercingetorix he was defeated by Gaius Julius Caesar at the Battle of Alesia in 52BC.

I believe the Germans put up a stiff resistance too, check out the battle of Teutobürger Wald. And they were among the best mercenaries the Romans had too. It's still in their blood today. Watch 'em go when you let 'em loose in Pattaya.

Apart from RedBull and the Bumgun what have the Thais given the world ? is there a connection between these 2 items ?

RedBull is Thai? That's news to me! It's originally Austrian, and has always been! Not that it matters...

Dietrich Mateschitz and Nina Avery travelled to Thailand and saw that the tuk-tuk drivers drank a substance to keep them energized throughout the day. After some alterations to the recipe, and a flavour modification for the public, Red Bull was born. He adapted it from the popular Thai beverage Krating Daeng (กระทิงแดง), which translates into the English language as Red Gaur. In 1984 he approached the local firm TC Pharmaceuticals to license it. They agreed, and took a 51% stake in his firm,Red Bull GmbH. The architecturally spectacular headquarters are located in Fuschl am See, Austria.

Try a little research...I think Chaleo Yooidhya might have something to say about who created Red Bull

Now I beg to differ, in my humble opinion, my wife is the best wife in world. Although I might concede that yours is the best wife in the world for you, as mine is for me, and mine is one of the better thai cooks in the world.

Sorry but you are totally wrong - it is not originally Austrian

"The original Red Bull drink was developed in 1962 by Chaleo Yoovidhya, a Thai businessman, and sold under the name Krating Daeng (กระทิงแดง, Thai for Red Bull) by the company TC Pharmaceutical[1]. The recipe was based on Lipovitan, an earlier energy drink that had been introduced to Thailand from Japan. Krating Daeng sales soared across Asia in the 1970s and 1980s, especially among truck drivers, construction workers and farmers. The working class image was boosted by sponsorship of Thai boxing matches, where the logo of two red bulls charging each other was often on display.

The Thai product was transformed into a global brand by Dietrich Mateschitz, an Austrian entrepreneur. Mateschitz was international marketing director for Blendax, a German toothpaste company, when he visited Thailand in 1982 and discovered that Krating Daeng helped to cure his jet lag [2]. Between 1984 and 1987, Mateschitz worked with TC Pharmaceutical (a Blendax licensee) to adapt Krating Daeng for European audiences. At the same time Mateschitz and Yoovidhya founded Red Bull GmbH; each investing $500,000 of savings and taking a 49% stake in the new company. They gave the remaining 2% to Yoovidhya's son Chalerm, but it was agreed that Mateschitz would run the company.[3] Red Bull GmbH launched the “Austrian” version of Red Bull in 1987, which is carbonated and not as sweet as the original Thai recipe. It is the Austrian formula that has taken almost half of the US market for energy drinks, and up to 80% of the market in some other countries.

In addition to owning half of Red Bull GmbH, Chaleo and his son continue to market the original formula across Asia. In 2006, Forbes Magazine listed Chaleo as being the 292nd richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of over $2.5 billion[4] while Mateschitz was listed at number 317.[5]

Quote LP: french fries are not French at all, it's Belgian!

it's from the verb "to french" = cut in slizes, not from France !!

I may have to stand corrected here but I always thought it was "trancher"

I believe "to french" has quite a different and not directly culinary meaning, especially where I live.

And French fries in French have no national tag, they're usually called pommes frites

I thought it was because the American GI's could not tell where they were and with the people talking French where they were named them French Fries?

Maybe an urban myth but after spending a number of years working in Belgium do believe they are the best "Fries" of all from a good urban Brussels Friterie

Having said that though it has to be "Chips" with fish or a pie.

I think the Romans' name for Germany was Germania "Inferior" and present day Cologne was the Roman colony Colonia Agrippina. Check out this link: http://www.ancientworlds.net/aw/Places/Place/418174

So lets see. Japanese product > modified by Thai > Thai product > modified by Austrian > Austrian product.

So how come it's claimed to be Thai? :o
