The government and the Mass Communications Organization of Thailand (Mcot) will hold a fund-raising campaign via Channel 9 TV station on Monday night to help victims of tropical storm Pa Buk.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and members of his Cabinet will attend the event which will be broadcast live from 8.20 pm until 10 pm and will take phone calls to receive donations from members of the public.

Donors can make cash contributions by wiring their money into the Krung Thai Bank’s account “Fund to Help Public Disaster Victims” of the PM’s Office at Tel. 067-006-8950.

Instantly that has reduced the number of potential viewers.

The number of people that switch their TVs off on Fridays when his mug is on, must follow suit.

The mans all heart. only thing is the donations are for people affected by the storm, not to top up his overflowing bank account.????

That thought never entered my head. Well, not for two seconds anyway.

Why doesn't he just ask his mate Prawit; he has money to burn; his watch fund alone could raise more than PM's heart-rending appeal.

Aha!

So this is the real reason for all the sensationalism!

Got me.

Another attempt to appeal to the public before the election (whenever it is!)!

Is there any committee, panel, forum or sideshow that he does not impose himself upon for reasons of his own ego and self importance?

Surely there are more appealing and articulate people who could host the show, Rather than trying to glorify himself he should be organising the government resources to provide assistance to those affected by the storm. That is his role; not a TV celebrity host and a poor one at that.

ThaiVisa, no fun anymore. I picked up on this thread at only 11 posts. But all the smart ass, sarcastic, opportunistic-appearing nasty comments had already been said from tapping the deep pockets of WATCHMAN to a PR stunt by the PM.

But I will add this, what a cheap, transparent, pre election opportunity 'great leader' has taken here.

Not to be confused with the "Fund to Help Retired Generals" of the PM Office.

Seriously, NCPO Chief and PM Prayut has immediate access to Treasury funds and to borrowing funds to assist Thai disaster victims. For him to take phone calls for citizen donations is ludicrous and a failure of his responsibility as PM.

I'm sure the grannies and grandads will be bending over backwards to donate some of their 600 baht allowance to this trustworthy man.

No mention of the Government or any of its over rich members and supporters giving any money.  Too bloody selfish !

Can he give some of his 600 million from the land sale?  or Prawit could donate a watch?

Such a caring and benevolent military coup leader. Tears in my eyes....

Brilliantly said, Srikcir. For a man who can (and does) dip his hand into the Treasury for whatever he deems fit, to ask the public to fork out money for victims of the storm is downright insulting. But then - 'Insult' is this man's middle name!
