Is the "400K Baht Baking" Rule Needed for Extensions flexible?

Featured Replies

I entered Thailand in mid December on a new Non-Imm O visa valid for 90 days. I expected to go to my embassy to get a notarized letter for the income requirement when it was time to apply for a one year extension based on marriage. Now with all the new information posted here that the rules have just changed and UK/US/Australian embassies are no longer notarizing letters for Thai Immigration, I realize I need to bake 400K baht in the bank. I just transferred some funds and can deposit them later this week. But the 2 months "bake date" of my 400K will come on the same week that my 90 day O visa is expiring. Will Immigration let me apply for the extension a few weeks earlier, if I show them the money is in my account, but will not be fully "baked" until days before the O visa expires? Or will I need to wait to apply for the extension at the very last minute, due to the 2 months bake rule for new visas? Will Immigration be a bit flexible due to having just deleted the embassy letter option for most of us?  I will be applying at the Immigration office at Chaeng Wattana. Anyone wish to comment or advise me?

You can apply for the 1 year extension on or before the 90th day, but the full 400K must have been in your bank for a full 2 months before they will let you apply.

If you can’t meet the 2 months before the end of the 90 days you apply for a 60 day extension (without financials) and then go for the 1 year extension after that.

Alternatively you could transfer at least 40K in January and February and apply using the new proof of income option.

OP

I dont disagree with elviajero but I have heard from one immigration officer at CW that they have flexibility the first 6 months of 2019 with the seasoning requirements for the 400K or 800K or income method due to the income affidavits being discontinued. I would try it if I was you and if that does not work follow elviajeros advice. Please let us know what happens. Some long time expats were out of the country when the income affidavits were stopped and CW will have some discretion to grant extensions if the money is in the bank even if it was not there for the time period required.
