HDMI to USB on older TV any ideas?

Hi I have an older LED TV that I want to use in a guestroom. One use would be to play movies from a hard drive connected to the TV. Unfortunately this TV doesn't have any USB connections.

I was wondering if it would be possible to Watch movies with some kind of HDMI to USB female adapter? Does anyone have any idea if this is possible or if there is any other way to connect the HD to do this.

I'm aware of the android box/media player option. Thing is I want to keep this as user friendly as possible and the intended user is already familiar with playing from a connected HD.

Any other ideas?

You may find the tv does not have a media player built in so will be unable to play directly from HD.

I wasn't aware that one was needed to just play files from an HD, but you might have a point..

Otherwise would something like this work?

What you are trying to achieve is probably impossible.  You are going to need to use some kind of external device which has the capability to play the media files.  The TV most probably does not.

Would you happen to have a link?

If you search for Mini full HD 1080p video player you should get a few hits. Prices vary. They all come from China, Lazada doesn't have any locally. I got mine in about a week or so.

I ended up buying a cheap Android box, will have to install another launcher and make the UI as friendly as possible.

Thanks all for your help much appreciated
