Video: Just another day in Bangkok - motorcyclists and pedestrians play cat and mouse with a train

Footage posted online showed a level crossing in Bangkok where many motorcyclists and pedestrians were playing a dangerous game as a train approached.

The video from YouTube - taken perhaps with a helmet-cam - found its way to Facebook where many Thai people commented negatively.

In the footage passengers on bikes - both taxis and non-taxi - can be seen trying to raise the barrier themselves so the bike can pass. It all happened in broad daylight under the Ratchaprarop BTS station in downtown Bangkok.

A pedestrian also runs across the tracks as the warning siren blares.

Sanook said that many netizens commented that people should forfeit their right to compensation for behaving so recklessly.

Others said let them do it - they deserve to die.

One who said he had seen an accident under such circumstances said the image was etched on his brain.

Some suggested it was time for the railway authorities to upgrade the level crossing to put a stop to the cat and mouse game.

Thaivisa notes that such impatient behavior is commonplace at the many crossings in Bangkok.

The footage wound up on the site called "Song Lor Ko Dai Ler?" (So you can do it on two wheels?).

need to have a camera on that crossing, with a message saying, 1000 baht fine and your vehicle will be CRUSHED, look at the moto taxis trying to get their customers killed

Lemmings springs to mind.

I once saw a motorcycle taxi do this in Kanchanaburi....didn't tell the passenger he was going to duck under the wire barrier and the young girl was nearly garrotted as she was dragged off the back of the bike. Morons the lot of them.

Go on, one more, it will be a few seconds till the train gets there !

I hope when /if they ever get those really fast trains they are talking

about, that they have  REALLY secure barriers to prevent this kind of thing.

It's 2019 now, guys. Why should anyone have to wait for anything?

Thai people driving as morons it seems they can't wait for die

So this is just a normal behavior from Thai people

Train gotta stop or slow down for them. They road belongs to them.

More adventures of the Invincibles.

Obviously fine and the taking away there bikes for a week may work and the walkers well fine them but to do it have the police patrol the crossings randomly.

JUST A Thought TO Get them thinking ?

maybe they'll up the ante, with new exciting activities on the rails?

Image result for do you recognise this hand on rail tracks  cheapskate charging mobile via track rails...

The rules don't apply to Thais - they are all born with all the knowledge required to make sound judgments about everything!

Just look at how they drive and the results - speaks for itself!

But then the cameraperson is breaking the law by moving into, and stopping in, the box junction directly in front of the barrier. On the approach, you can see a car on the camera's left who has stopped to avoid entering the box junction.

Just like sheep, one does it so more follow.

Life or death gamble to save 30 seconds.

In Nakhon Pathom district this is an every day occurrence at every crossing, many going either under or around the end of the barrier until the train is literally in sight.

Nothing new here.

The way you're talking you'd think that Thailand is the only country that has traffic accidents on regular basis.

No, but they have the most in the world......fact.

I believe that if people want to play Russian Roulette with their life they should be allowed to do so. I just feel sorry for those who have to scrape up their remains into a black sack.

Can I quote you the seven-day holiday road death statistics of Thailand and the UK, countries with a similar number of citizens?

Thailand: 463

UK: 8

It's hardly taking any risk when the train is stopped 50 yards from the tracks while people get on and off. Meanwhile the warning sounds and the gates are down. I have been at this intersection many times and wondered why the gates go down when the train is not moving. Even when the train does move, it starts very slowly and creeps through this crossing. Much ado about nothing.

Sure you can, it just bolsters my point that people are killed and have accidents in the UK too.  I'm not disputing the numbers, I am disputing the inference that only Thailand has bad drivers!

Hierarchy.

Must be a reason to explain such behaviours. Not only at railway crossings, just about everywhere on the roads.

Might have to do with hierarchy. Who is ahead, who does not have to "wai" in deference to others any longer, who is no longer a 'dek', who is superior, who is in the lead..

Hierarchy.

Seems like they are ready to die to show that one is better, faster, ahead, gets there before everyone else.

But not really ready to die for it.

Because nothing will happen to them.

To others perhaps.

Statistics, what statistics, what does that mean...
