Turned away by immigration office because of applying for TV extension in the “wrong” province

Featured Replies

Good evening all,

Went to Samut Sakhon immigration today to extend my 60 day tourist visa.

The IO checked all paperwork and everything seemed ok till she saw the address I wrote on the form.

Told me I can extend at Chaeng Wattana immigration only since I am “registered” in Bangkok.

FYI, the Samut Sakhon immigration office is way more close to me (around a 10 mins drive by motorbike) than the CW office which would take me over an hour and thirty minutes to get to during the nasty traffic.

Not to mention the long queues there and the annoying smelly backpackers lol. (No pun intended, used to be one myself before without the bad smell)

Does it seem reasonable to be turned away for this reason since I stay in the Bang Khun Thian area (Rama 2) which directly borders Samut Sakhon province?

PS I extended here with the same female IO before without any issues.

Thanks, and have a good one.

To my knowledge, that IO is in her full right to turn you away. You shall perform your duties at the I.office where you are registrered.

Evening glegolo,

Technically I’m not even registered anywhere(Last hotel that probably registered me with immigration was Holiday Inn Vana Nava Hua Hin) since my landlord refused to do the tm-30 to imm. Stupid I know l, but it was either losing my 20.000 baht rent for two months fighting my landlord or just staying here not making a big deal out of it.

So that would mean hypothetically speaking if I’d do a road trip around Thailand without staying anywhere permanently (camping in the middle of nowhere or staying at friends for a day or so) and end up at the other side of the country in any immigration office giving up the last address I stayed which was in Bangkok they could send me back to Bangkok for me trying to extend to stay in the kingdom Legally without overstay.

Still love the country after many years, but sometimes the bureaucracy and ever changing rules make me get a headache lol.

If you were to check into a cheap hotel in the same province then you can use that provinces immigration office along with the hotels address......

Yes I figured that out too late.

Blistering daytime heat, an empty stomach and all the truck fumes made me a mess at time.

Seems there is nothing left other than going to Chang Wattana tomorrow early, perhaps even staying in some cheap hotel close to there for the night.

Thanks
