Democrats unveil ten policies to make Bangkok livable, clean, safe

Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva today presented ten policies to upgrade the livelihood of the people in Bangkok by making the city “livable, beautiful, clean, safe and with opportunities”.

He said that the ten policies were screened from 50 issues associated with the city dwellers by the 30 city candidates of the party working in tandem with its policy team with inputs from the candidates.

He insisted that the ten policies are realistic and reflecting the real life of Bangkokians and “do not just float in the air.”

1 Nightmare will be in one of their proposals of putting all  power underground by 2022,

the disruptions will be astonomical and time consuming, one would hope a new cable would be laid and octopus branches then fed off to relevant users, a reclaiming of old cables, to re use or recycle, can commence  once the new connection is made,

cut the people and vehicles by half

Looks like a lot of Government tenders? The mad monk got the last one, remodelling the police stations.

Vehicles may be a big issue; so why not give healthy concessions on the supply of hybrid and electric vehicles? Anything that is under say 3km per 100.

Concessions for industry if they can reduce pollution by about 30-40%?

Forgot number 1 solution.

HAVE THE POLITICIANS AND ALL OFFICIALS CLEAN UP THEIR ACT!!!

Do that and all three items will be fixed.

Ban loudspeakers vans; police stick-ups & badly/non-serviced diesel vehicles.

Funny he doesn't mention the most obvious one: proper motor vehicle emission limits and strict enforcement. Limits should become more stringent every 3 to 5 years. Implement motor vehicle tolls in critical areas, like in Singapore or London. Anything else is just mild gesticulation.

The municipality is overcrowded and commercialized.

  • Place moratorium on residential and commercial growth.
  • Cut development by 25-30% and replace with open space.
  • Cut commuting into Bangkok by 40%.
  • Redirect new residences and commercial projects to other less developed metropolitan areas.
  • Relocate Provincial seat as well as military HQ to another less developed metropolitan area (ie., Brasilia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brasília )

There is a downside:

Goodbye to a massively pro-military/Democrat Party politically controlled area.

All 10 seem easily do-able, including burying the wires. My partner and I visited 3 large cities in China, each with a population of 6 million or more, and each city had buried the wires.  Just stop whining and do it, and the other 9.

A whole lot of "Half-Nice" ideas, that have not been thought through (planning + implementation)  to completion, which is typical of politicians all over the world.
