You can apply for a one year extension of stay if you are legal father of your child by way of marriage or legitimization of your parenthood. You would need 400k baht in a Thai bank or proof of 40k baht income.

You can also apply for a 60 day extension of any entry to visit your child.

I just saw this thread and have some questions to the parent of thai child visa. I am going to Consulate Savannakhet to make a single non o visa to stay with my thai child (1 year old). Which documents do i need? I am not married to the mother but my name and passport number is on our child's birth certificate.

And can I not just make a border run and then go to thai immigration and change my visa exempt to a non o visa and get 90 days + 60 extension later?

You will need a your child's birth certificate plus a copy and a copy of their house book registry to apply for a single entry non-o visa.

You cannot change a visa exempt entry to non-o visa at immigration unless you can qualify for a one year extension of stay based upon being the parent of a Thai. That requires financial proof and being the legal father of your child by way of legitimization of your parenthood.

Thanks for the fast answer! Any documents from the mother needed in Savannakhet? No Bank Statement needed?

They don't normally ask for anything from the mother. At the most a signed copy of her ID card might be good to have.

No bank statement needed.
