Place To Stay In Bangkok

Hi

Im coing to Thailand in May and staying 3 nights in Bangkok. I'm travelling by myself so I want to avoid staying in the seedier parts of town but still want somewhere reasonably cheap (under 500) and central, preferably with a backpacker vibe. I'm thinking of staying at Asha Guesthous at 4 Intamara, 3 Suttisarn Rd, Phayathai. Has anyone had any experience of that place? Whats the area like? Is is fairly close to the Grand palace? Any other reccommendations of good, cheap places to stay?

Thanks
