The Americans waiting over two years until Hitler declared war on them before joining in didn't help. I don't think our generals covered themselves with honour (except Slim). We should be grateful to The Few pilots and the pointy heads who protected us in the dark days. It must have been terrifying for the French. I suspect I would have collaborated. Not sure I would have had the intestinal fortitude to be heroic. Yes, in all fairness the Americans were a little late in joining us, but ever since then the wars they undertook they tended to be very prompt and more often than not, early. But I can only take people as I find them, where I lived they were very pro British, and in all my time in France I cannot remember any incident where the French have been other than cordiale, and from somebody from West Yorkshire getting a peck on the cheek from a Frenchman was very alien to me. But hopefully, we are leaving the EU and not Europe.

The vote wasn't about electing a government, it was about changing the status of citizens, all British passport holders. As I was in Thailand at the time of the vote I had no right to vote, but that vote revoked my right to be an EU citizen. I should have had the right to participate.
