Relatives of late royal oppose building of condo block next door

Descendants of a famous Thai prince yesterday lodged a complaint with the Central Administrative Court over a committee’s controversial decision to allow a condo building to be built next to his residence.

The Plai Noen Royal Villa, which now belongs to HRH Prince Narisara Nuvativongse’s Jitpong family, is located in Bangkok’s Klong Toei district.

Late last year, a committee of specialists on environmental impact assessments (EIA) for building, land allocation and community services of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) approved the EIA for the condo project to be developed next door.

Descendants of the prince said the villa had historic and cultural value. Built a long time ago, its structure might suffer when the construction of a big building started nearby.

“Such precious architecture should not be endangered,” they said.

A son of King Rama IV, Prince Narisara made huge contributions to Thailand’s architectural, visual arts, theatrical arts and fine arts in his lifetime.

In 1963, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) named the prince a person of international importance.

The descendants of the late prince hope they can protect his Plai Noen Royal Villa and later open it as a museum for public benefit.

Just what we need--another condo block in Bangkok.

Important and significant to 7 people?? ....flatten it and build a new mall

Only Nigerian princes get my attention these days????

Royal nimbyism, that's a new one!

There is no need for more condo's anyway, turn the construction site into a park instead.

The late prince died in 1947, taking an awful long time to open it as a museum for public benefit.

Although the Prince no doubt is a person of historic interest, especially to Thai people, that photo of his villa doesn't strike me as a building worth protecting. It seems to show a cheap concrete block structure in a state of disrepair.

NIMBY: Not in My Back Yard. ✓

Cant say I would blame anyone for not wanting a condo slapped next to my villa. The city urban planners should have a clear plan as to where condo developments would be desirable instead of the practice of rich investors slapping condos up wherever they have managed to purchase cheap land.

"The city urban planners should have a clear plan," hahaa haaaa, that is so funny, the concept of city planning does not exist here.
