Does all this bickering help ?  The point of the matter is that this cave diver was awarded one of the UK's most prestigious awards for how he helped in rescuing those children from the cave. A very skilled diver and a brave man indeed.

I understand your frustration, Geoff, but these guys are only trying to correct an alleged inaccuracy, 'The civilian equivalent of the Victoria Cross!' in an earlier post . . . hardly bickering.

The civilian equivalent of the Victoria Cross!   Well done that man and all who participated in the rescue.

  • A well-deserved honour John, myself and many others salute your bravery.

Why all the pathetic nitpicking?

The man is a hero, lets just remember that, and please stop this nonsense.

Jaysus-let it go..

As the supposed miscreant in the Battle of Awards I humbly apologize and award you all the Golden Thai Visa Cross (3rd Class) to be worn only when wearing pink lurex tights and 6" tall high heels at the local karaoke bar..

Otherwise (i repeat) well done to everybody involved in the rescue.

First, by your erroneous comment, you trigger what was nothing more than a side-debate, re the correct and definitive status of the George Medal award and then you throw a wobbler at the result and attempt to discredit others by childish, facetious – almost Prayuth-like – rhetoric.

From a contender for poster of the year I expected far, far better.

Most Brits (and I include myself) couldn't tell a Victoria Cross from a George Cross from a George Medal. I've never even heard of the last one, it's not a far cry from a Boy George Medal for confused teenagers. And how many Brits could describe an MBE, as opposed to a CBE or an OBE without looking it up?

And that doesn't even include the two divers who got the Queen's Gallantry Medal, try explaining that without using Google. Luckily, it's enough to say they've all been properly honoured by Her Majesty.
