Officials warned to exercise caution in welcoming PM on campaign trail

Provincial officials have been warned to exercise greater caution when welcoming Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha during his campaign trail to prevent provoking any legal complications for the premier, said Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda today.

He noted that in providing security for the prime minister on the hustings as a prime ministerial candidate of the Palang Pracharat party, the security service accorded to Gen Prayut should be the same as that provided to other prime ministerial candidates.

Officials have been placed in an awkward position, regarding the way they will have to treat the incumbent prime minister in his capacity as a prime ministerial candidate, because he is still wearing the hats of the Prime Minister of Thailand and head of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).  Additionally, the law forbids a state official from electoral campaigning, whereas the actual status of the Prime Minister remains unclear as to whether he is considered a state official or just a public figure.

I hope he, and his team, are careful when paying for coffee, wouldn't want them to be over charged....... it might make a splash on social media.

The solution is very simple - just don't welcome him. For the purposes of introduction, he should be addressed as the leader of the NCPO and self-appointed PM. If some biographical details are needed, it should be made clear that he was the leader of coup which overthrew the elected government and annulled the Constitution, acts of treason which were pardoned in the new Constitution written by authorities under his supreme control.

I know some choice adjectives that could help in defining this Prime Minister, if needed.

So therefore he won't be making a grand entrance with a fleet of limousines and an army of uniformed and plain clothes security personnel.

Perhaps he will now have to arrive quietly by himself in a meter taxi after negotiating a price acceptable to the driver.

My guess is that it is best to prostrate oneself into a lying, supine position and then crawl to the PM's feet and kiss the tip of his shoes.  He's a very, very, very special person.

Simply ask what is he doing... attending as a candidate or as the PM..

More  deception in the  wings?

Mrs NL and the family have already attended the hustings of a couple of political parties in deepest, darkest Isaan and dutifully collected their 500 baht 'attendance fees'. I think this warning to 'exercise caution' is to simply make sure that the attendance fee business is handled with the same equanimity by Palang Pracharat when their one-trick pony show hits town.
