BANGKOK (NNT) – Nielsen (Thailand) Co. has confirmed that the state welfare card scheme supports consumer products and revives Mom and Pop stores.

Ms. Somwalee Limrachtamorn, the managing director of Nielsen (Thailand), the leading provider of marketing information and consumer-related measurement, disclosed that the state welfare card scheme which offers each card holder 200-300 baht a month to buy consumer products and spend on travel expenses in the past year improved the overall growth of consumer goods in late 2018.

It has resulted in the expansion of consumer goods in last year’s fourth quarter that grew by 3.6 percent, higher than the previous quarters of last year, she said.

She added that the welfare card scheme has boosted the sales of local mom and pop stores which had grown by 3.5 percent in average in the fourth quarter.

The consumer goods have forecast growth of 3-4 percent in 2019, but the number is considerably low in comparison to the numbers in the past 10 years.
