New Visa Renewal Process?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am just curious because I have read that there is a new requirement in renewing your nonB visa. (I am not sure if it is really new though.)

They said that you will have to authenticate your degree in your embassy first, and then after that, you will have to go to Cheangwattana Building A to have your authenticated degree stamped by MFA or Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After all that stuff is done, that's the only time they can give/extend your renewed visa.

Can someone enlighten me about this?

This is my first time renewing my visa. I didn't have my degree authenticated when I first got my initial WP and visa.

You cannot renew a non-b visa at immigration. You can apply for an extension of stay based upon working or teaching.

Immigration does not require a degree to apply for an extension of stay.

Perhaps confusion about you will be applying for. If you were changing from a tourist or visa exempt entry to get a 90 day non immigrant visa (category B) entry it would be required.

I worked as a teacher in Thailand from 1995 - 2010, and again for a couple of years in the current decade. I had to have my degree authenticated for my first job, but I was never asked to do it again. As with so many other things, the requirements are sometimes overlooked. But, if someone has told you that if you want a certain job, you need to have your degree authenticated, the choice is yours.

You didn't state your country of citizenship. Contact your embassy in Bangkok for advice on how to proceed.

One notable exception: Britons can only have thir degrees authenticated in Britain.

Hi @ubonjoethank you so much for responding!

I may have used the wrong term. I am extending my nonB visa for the first time in Chaengwattana. So technically I will just need the basic ones? Like police, medical etc? since I already got my visa in Laos last year? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Also, do we even renew our visa? Or do we just extend it always as long as you will not change your employer?

Thanks!!

Visas are not extended. You would be extending the 90 day permit to stay you got from the non-b visa.

For an extension you do not need a medical or police clearance certificate. Most of the documents required are provided by your employer.

Are you working for a company or are you teaching.

Visas are never renewed. You can only apply for a new one. If you can keep getting extensions of stay you will never need to go out for a new visa.
