A woman was hit and killed by a pickup truck while standing inside her house on the side of a road in Prachin Buri’s Kabin Buri district on Monday morning.

Police said the pickup had been hit from behind by a 10-wheeled truck, causing it to lose control and plough into the one-floor house of Bua-ngern Boonwong, 48, on the Ban Wang Tha Chang-Ban Prong Yai road in Tambon Wang Tha Chang.

The pickup swept the woman and some of the property along for about 40 metres before coming to a halt as it hit a stand of banana trees.

Police said the driver of the 10-wheeler fled the scene in his truck following the accident.

They had yet to check CCTV footage to try to identify the driver with a view to arresting him.

Bua-ngern’s neighbours, Jirarat Sangiamwong and Boonyuen Khamsiang, said they saw a 10-wheeled truck slam into a pickup, which was rammed into the victim’s house, taking her and some of the property along with it.

Hansa Khampaet, 51, the wife of the pickup driver, Phanom Khampaet, told police that she heard a loud noise at the rear of their vehicle and was shocked as it ploughed into a woman and demolished much of the house she was in.

She and her husband were injured in the accident, Hansa added.

They should add 5 years to any sentence where the driver fled the scene.

That is very sad to read. RIP Bua-ngern Boonwong. Condolences to family and friends.

And may they "string up" the truck driver when caught! Sometimes I think (although not politically correct) 'tis such a pity that lynch mobs are out of date!

Not even safe from Thais in pick-ups while sitting in your house!

Well, true. Especially a house built from tissue papers and right up against the road.

They all contribute to their poor fate.
