Thai immigration police has detained a South Korean man wanted in his own country for financial crimes.

Kim Kyung Soo fled after receiving money from investors, Immigration police chief Pol Lt General Surachet Hakparn said, adding the damage was estimated to be about 4.2 billion won (Bt120 million).

The suspect was arrested at a condominium in Sathorn district recently.

Surachet said the investigation into the location of the suspect started when South Korean authorities contacted Thailand after reports he had fled to the Kingdom.

Acting on intelligence information, Surachet said police found the suspect at the condominium. When police approached him, he could not produce his passport.

According to Surachet, the suspect confessed that he escaped prosecution from his home country by boat to Vietnam before sneaking into Cambodia and Thailand about two years ago.

The suspect was charged with illegal entry into the Kingdom and faces legal action before being deported.
