I'm aware of a case in Chiang Mai about 5 years ago where visiting Christian missionaries on holidays from California 'kidnapped' 2 Thai girls and took them about 2 km away and bombarded them with 'jesus will save you stuff but you must give up Buddhism'. The Thai family (buddhist) very balanced, very happy, good income good education for the kids, were alerted by other foreigners tht the girls had disappeared from a park, parents called the police, the girls were found and the missionaries charged, fined and deported. It happens. My Thai son initially had difficulties with the parents of the Thai lady he was about to marry. Son's gf has a full on loud lady boy brother who demanded that I never be allowed to visit any of their homes because' All farang are Christian and therefore very dangerous and a farang in the family will bring continuous had luck.
