March 25, 20197 yr So I had to renew my license and I noticed that they put my last name before my first name on the new license. I thought this might be just the Thai style as some things do list the last name first. But I have seen other Thai licenses with the first name written out first. Is this something that I should go back to the DLT and have them correct or am I good with the license the way that it is. Thanks Edited March 25, 20197 yr by flyingsaucersarereal

Not sure if this is a recent change in the way the licenses are issued.
March 25, 20197 yr Correction - mine matches my Yellow house book, where name is listed as - First, Middle, Last Passport is Last, First, MiddlePassport Surname, first, middle are on different lines so they can clearly see what the names represent
March 25, 20197 yr My first 5 year renewal license (i.e. after the original 1 year) put my date of birth incorrectly... Nov rather than Sept... When I pointed out the error.. no problem they said. So 5 years on, for the next renewal, I pointed out the error when I made the application - OK, we correct they said... but still didn't. It's due for renewal again later this year... I suppose I'll try to get them to correct it again.

Subsequent five-year renewals run for five years (+) and always expire on your birthday. Not sure what happens when somebody applies for a first renewal but is only given another two-year licence because they don't possess the correct visa for a five-year licence though. Does it run for two years from the initial expiry date or is the expiry still rolled round to the person's birthday as with a five-year renewal?
March 27, 20197 yr Mine is first name, middle name, surname And it's NOT Thai customs to write surname first. All the ID cards of the family are first name, surname in Thai script and English. In English it's on two lines: "Name", "Last Name". The obvious chaos means nothing different than that they can't read (foreign) passports. 2011, DLT Khon Kaen. Got my first DL. First attempt: no surname, just first/middle Second attempt: name OK. Drive home. Much later realize that the address is on the back. AND? It's completely wrong, different province, from other person or so Edited March 27, 20197 yr by KhunBENQ

I queried it and was told "New procedure". However, they had spelled my name wrong so the changed it without charge anyway. Still surname first though.

My last issue was motorbike license in March 2017. I would suggest the format that's used depends on what ID you're using when you apply to renew your licence. In both 2008 and 2013 I used my passport and my name is written 'surname-first name-middle name', as shown in my passport. However, when I renewed it last year I used my yellow book and ID card and my name is written 'first name-middle name-surname', which is the same format as the ID that I used. Also, whenever I used my passport as ID my passport number is shown as my ID number on my DL but when using my yellow book/ID card it's my Thai ID, as shown in those documents, that's now shown on my DL.
March 27, 20197 yr They got the year of my birthday wrong. So I went back to ask. The official waved his hand brusquely (translates to go away) and said it doesn't matter. But it might to a policeman when it doesn't match your passport. What a bureacracy they have, I suspect they just didn't want to admit they made a mistake.
