International Red Cross ready for Venezuela humanitarian aid operation

CARACAS (Reuters) - The International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said on Friday it was prepared to channel humanitarian aid to Venezuela through an operation that could be similar to one in Syria, potentially helping ease chronic hunger and disease in the South American nation.

Australia plans tougher social media laws for failing to thwart violent content

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Social media executives could spend up to three years in prison and their firms be fined 10 percent of their turnover if they fail to quickly remove violent material from their platforms, according to a new law proposed by the Australian government.

MORONI (Reuters) - Comoros said its security forces killed at least three gunmen in a shootout at a military base in the capital on Thursday after renegade soldiers broke out of prison and the opposition announced a plan to unseat the president.

Fah Sai was only a month old when veterinarians from the National Parks Department found her trapped in a snare set on the edge of the Ang Rue Nai wildlife sanctuary in Rayong province in mid December.

PARIS (Reuters) - Agnes Varda, the Belgian-born grande dame of French cinema and an influential force behind the New Wave movement, died at her home in Paris on Friday. She was 90 years old.
