I know mine is not a popular opinion in here, but I quite like the fact that Thai's (the majority of whom are much poorer than your average tourist) can spend time in the beautiful national parks in their own country for free / less. And the upkeep of these areas is funded by (relatively) rich tourists and ex-pats. The poor in Thailand don't get many breaks. I don't begrudge them this one. -
