Korn in mid of Democrats’ “soul-searching”

Because of his height and good look, Korn Chatikavanij is an outstanding man. In politics, though, he is the sort of men who let many people, including those less qualified, fly overhead. Abhisit Vejjajiva’s resignation from the Democrat Party’s helm may, however, push Korn to the forefront where he will need to mix his academic and financially knowledgeable aura with an old-fashioned political approach which is something he is less comfortable with.

 

In Thailand, sophistication is probably secondary when being a political party leader is concerned. Abhisit was there before, being criticised for giving his family more importance than going to unacquainted funerals, weddings and all the social functions that could reinforce the party’s image and perceived generosity. In this sense, Korn has a disadvantage in the fight for party leadership with Jurin Laksanavisit, who despite a good image is more familiar with funeral-attending politics.

 

But the problem is not just about going to funerals or weddings of people he did not know or barely knows. Now a caretaker deputy Democrat leader following the recent resignation of Abhisit, Korn is expected to fulfil his potentials and rebuild Thailand’s oldest political camp after a humiliating election defeat on March 24. Abhisit stepped down after the poll loss, having vowed to bow out if his party won fewer than 100 parliamentary seats.

'Because of his height and good looks, Korn is an outstanding man'. Is that the best this air-head writer can do?

It needs more than height and good looks at the present time - it needs passionately held political principle, unswerving commitment to democracy, fairness and justice, and GUTS.

 

Korn has none of these 'outstanding' qualities.

Judging by such a superficial article, they will never be able benefit Thailand.  They just do not have the cognitive depth to deal with anything other than trivial matters.

Just meant to say he just don’t have the fortitude to fight in the political trenches. Perhaps too much secrets to keep and scare of disclosures. 

His party will soon be completely irrelevant, I wonder what good that puff piece could possibly do.

The Democrat Party needs to collapse.

It's defamed democracy in Thailand well enough and the electorate have said so.

Or, perhaps he doesn't need the extra pressure. Many people turn down "promotions" because they don't relish a leadership role. I know I did, never regretted it either.

Democrats soul searching. Sounds about right. Looking for something they have never had and are unfamiliar with.

 

When they once again fail to find a soul they will get into bed with the junta again , face the wall, and revert to taking it up the Khyber as per normal.

Curiously absent from the article is Korn's position on whether he'll align the Democrats with the continuation of Prayuth's undemocratic rule or with the pro-democracy coalition?
