On the subject of Hubs

One of the factors in choosing Brissie yesterday was Coach Simpsons comments mid week about mental health of the players and wanting to return home.  If he is making those statements publicly there must be some internal issues with the players missing family or suffering because of being away from normal environments.

Early days, but its looking like the Hub could cost West Coast  a high finish for the season, and if they lose two more up the hub way, cold be a finals position lost

The boys can function very well on end of seasons trips for 2 weeks to months.....no excuse, when your getting paid above average your a professional.......Now im not suggesting the Tim Kelly affair has rubbed noses the wrong way...but you never know.....

It is not a like-for-like comparison.

The AFL clubs no longer sanction end of season Club trips. Sure groups of players will go together somewhere but clubs don't like it. When you are going on holidays it is a far different mindset than being in lockdown where you have restrictions.

On a holiday you can have freedom to do whatever you want. When you are in a lockdown in a different state you're away from family your travel movements are monitored you have to adhere to strict distancing you are stuck with a group of people who you may not like to spend a lot of time with.

These days when a lot of players go on a trip at end of season they take their partners or family with them with other players families or outside of the game that go with mates not necessarily team members who they don't have anything in common with.

It's true they are professional footballers and when they enter the AFL system they sign up knowing they could end up any club but the point is all of these players have ended up at Perth or Fremantle or the South Australian clubs and now they're being told well we're going to move you for a month or 6 weeks away from your family restrict all your movements take you out of your normal zone in an unprecedented situation of course they are going to be at a disadvantage.

Come on now fella......they had the opportunity to take there immediate family with them.....and Timmy did one of the few......And the Gold Coast isnt holiday paradise in winter?

Well didnt the Dee's fall in a heep in Perth when they found out they were there with the Convid raging all around them? same same....bullocks  i say.....soft cocks thats what they are.....all of them.....Put them in the army and make men of them.....thats what they should do.....

And i guess you would apply that line of reasoning to the Crows too fella?

Crows only flew on a day ago and SA have different restrictions.

Gold coast game today was the best I've watched all year

Not for the closeness of the game but the view into the future of what the gold coast team will be like.

One of the best games I've seen the Gold Coast play.

They defended, attacked, harrassed and played with the confidence of a team on the rise

There will be a few hiccups this years but I'd expect them to win quite a few this year watching that

Gangsters

The tipping website has put things on hold due to the postponement of the Essendon/Melbourne.

Regardless of that, Grannysapples and BM both picked 5 with grannyapples getting the Quality Street

for being closest to the margin.

Granny, BM and Scea head the table with 16.

That's if from the hub for another 4 days.

Congrats to the young whippersnapper Grant!
Scea is proving hard to budge from pole position

Fantasy are going to allocate the average after 3 round to the Melbourne and Essendon players. That means there round 3 score will be 0. After 2 rounds Gawn had an average of 99 but after 3 rounds only 66.

Thats strange because they will eventually play midweek too catch up....so then im guessing when they do that game wont be counted towards any score...would have been just better to suspend all Essendon and dee players from scoring this weekend.....so dropping there tally over threee rounds should make them cheaper to buy not that many Dee players are worth buying mind you....We missed a bullet yesterday thats for sure.....

Well Monday morning on the GC and Books has informed me its sunny there....17 right now....21 in Venice....and its night time there 3 am......its a bit cool in Buenos Aires too only 13 and around 11 pm there so them Eagles cant get a plane out of the country to hide, no stopping for a latte this morning guys.....Simo wont have them on the beach today....nope....there in the gym...to bulk on up....eating humble pie for lunch.....didnt mind that band when they rocked the Fillmore all them years ago...

It WILL get better there old WILL....your just not use to loosing.....you wanna come stay with me over a winter and see how I get through it....Its year in year out here...not much changes just the depth of the bashings....gees Im still reliving them nightmares at Arctic Park better known as Waverly Park back when big Carl was captain coach, record score kicked against us by then the Fitzroy Lions...took just over a full hour half on a freeway to get to the end of the earth which was Waverly in them days, imaging that long drive home? Not to mention Essendon belting us up in the 2000 grand final, Hawks did a good job in a GF on us in around 89 too I think....something like that..........we have this mechanism that the brain adapts to when you have way to much negative things going on in your life, its set to forget....or you become a raving lunatic...one or the other.....Them monks at your local temple have meditation classes....consider.....Anyway lot more important things going on in the world than football....well I tell myself that so I dont focus on it to much.....

Wonder if this will have any implications for our upcoming fixtures.

A hub in WA:biggrin:

Melbourne Storm to move home game due to COVID-19 spike

Melbourne Storm are moving their NRL Round 7 home game to New South Wales following a concerning spike in confirmed COVID-19 cases in Victoria.

The Storm were due to play the Warriors at AAMI Park on Friday, June 26, but will relocate the game to Sydney. A venue is yet to be allocated and there are concerns that the club will have to make a more permanent move to avoid the risk of contamination in Melbourne.

The hub's on baby!!

Perth Stadium given green light for huge numbers of fans to return over the next month

Perth Stadium can host a crowd of up to 30,000 when WA enters phase four of easing coronavirus restrictions this weekend.
That number will increase to 60,000 next month.

WA Premier Mark McGowan revealed the change, which will come into play after midnight on Friday night, will remove existing gathering limits as well as seating requirements at licensed venues.
Sporting stadiums will be allowed to reopen at 50 per cent capacity, which means Optus Stadium can hold up to 30,000 people.

“Phase four is another giant step for our state,” Mr McGowan said.

“We’re confident it’s the right step at the right time.”
But he said a decision on the border closure would be shelved for now, following a new rash of cases in Victoria.
“I won’t be pressured into making a rushed decision on our hard border,” he said.
