March 5, 200719 yr What I have found is that there is almost no discussion of requirements for men with Thai wives. The requirement for having a Thai wife is to marry a Thai lady.
March 5, 200719 yr well done guys, glad you gave the OP a break and explained things. Najine can you tell us what are your circumstances, they were right there is a lot of info on the board though
March 5, 200719 yr There isn't a spousal visa per se so that is why your search probably came up with nothing. There is however, a non-immigrant 'O' visa which gives three months entry into Thailand based on the fact that you have family here (ie your wife). Depending on the embassy you apply at, you'll either get one entry on the visa for a max. stay of three months, or what is called a multiple entry O visa (valid for 12 months), so you can come and go for 12 months, but stay no-longer than three months per time. So you then get three month entry on your first arrival. Towards the end of the three months, you have a couple of options. The first is to extent your stay, based on marriage to a Thai wife. With this, as a foreign male married to a Thai woman, there are financial and income requirments (which are discussed extensively on the board). If you don't meet these requirements, you have the option of (in the case of a multiple entry visa) exiting Thailand, crossing over into say Malaysia, Loas, Cambodia for 30 mins, and then returning to activate your next three months. If you only got a single entry, then you'd have to go down to say Penang to the Thai consulate there, and then re-apply for a new non-O visa to let you stay another three months.
March 5, 200719 yr Hi, I am a male UK citizen married to Thai woman (who is currently living in the UK on a 2-year visa) with a 9 month old daughter (who was born in the UK and holds both a UK and Thai Passport). We are planning to visit Thailand for approximately 90 days between November 2007 - March 2008. Is there a visa I need to apply for (at say the Thai Embassy in the UK) prior to the trip which will allow me to stay in Thailand for 90 days? Or would I need to apply for an extention to my 30 days once I arrive in Thailand? Many thanks
March 5, 200719 yr Apologies, I missed Samran's post below Does the fact my family are actually living with me in the UK, and I'm not visiting them in Thailand, affect my chances of obtaining a 3-month non-immigrant 'O' visa?
March 5, 200719 yr you'll get the O by showing you are married to a Thai citizen. Bring along your marriage certificate and her Thai PP when you apply.
March 5, 200719 yr Thanks for the info. I'd like to book flights and get O as soon as possible for planning and cost reasons, so can I apply now for an O to be valid in November 07, or must I apply nearer the date? If the latter, how much time would you suggest I apply before travel? Is it processed on the day or does it take some time? Also, are you aware if the Thai embassy in the UK typically provides multipe or single entry O visa's. I would prefer a multiple entry. Do you know how this is determined by the staff? Do I need to provide reasons for why I require a multiple entry O? Cheers.

Do I need to provide reasons for why I require a multiple entry O? You can apply for a non immigrant O type visa at any Thai consulate in UK. If you wish to apply for a multiple entry Non Imm Visa it will be valid for multiple entries to Thailand for a 1 year period from the date of issue. As you expect to travel in November and stay for 90 days you can apply now and it will still be valid when you travel. If you wish to stay longer than 90 days you will have to briefly leave and re-enter Thailand at any border to get another 90 days. You decide whether you want a single or multiple entry by marking it on the application form and including the correct fee. The reason for application is 'to visit family' You can apply by post, allow about 2 weeks. If in person usually its next day. Edited March 5, 200719 yr by Mahout Angrit
March 5, 200719 yr Thanks again. Does anyone know if the grant of a year long non-immigrant O visa counts towards the 3 year un-broken yearly visa extensions needed to qualify for application for permanent residence in Thailand? We intend to live in Thailand in the next few years. Cheers.

A visa extension is what you apply for once you are living in Thailand and by virtue of being married to a Thai and showing an income of B40,000 per month.
March 6, 200719 yr No it does not count for PR application status. No need to get too early as if you pay for one year you should be able to use for that period of time rather than having it expire soon after your trip (you may want to make another trip). But if you are sure you will not want to travel in 2008 again guess it is fine to get this early.

See this guide to the PR process. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=74654 They key points are that you need three years of unbroken extensions of your original entry, plus three years of tax returns in Thailand showing that you have been earning a reasonable salary. There are also Thai language and other criteria.
