PHUKET: Lt Gen Pornsak Poonsawat, Commander of the Fourth Army Region base in Nakhon Sri Thammarat, which is the leading Army base in all of Southern Thailand, has ordered his troops to provide emergency relief water to water-starved communities across Phuket – starting with an initial delivery of 45,000 litres that is to arrive today (April 24).

The water, to be delivered by nine trucks each carrying 5,000 litres, Lt Col Santi Sakuntanark, Commander of the Royal Thai Army's 25th Military Circle, which is based in Phuket, told The Phuket News this morning.

“Lt Gen Pornsak has ordered for water from Surat Thani province and Nakhon Sri Thammarat province to be delivered to local residents in Phuket,” Col Santi said.

I wonder what the purpose is for having the sign on the side of the truck?    And why is the Army part in English?

I understand they couldn't start this emergency mission until they had the commemorative T-shirts made.

Better than nothing even though next to useless. Phuket should have had a comprehensive water management plan put in place years ago. Looking like you are doing something with attendant publicity seems more important than actually doing something to benefit the public.

Hopefully, the 9 trucks are making 8-10 trips a day. Maybe they should even be delivering around the clock 24hrs a day to hotels and schools and businesses at night, homes during the day. This is just a drop in the bucket of what is needed. Another 100 trucks would be a good start.

Still filling in the natural water lake in Soi Namjai , Rawai ! Why is this allowed when we have a water shortage ?

Because they are stupid and corrupt and someone full of their own self importance demands that it be done.

Those tankers can't be very big. A full-sized tanker can take 40,000 litres per trip.

The largest tankers we have on the road in Phuket are the 10 wheel 12,000 liters tankers. Most use the 6 wheel 6,000 liter truck for ease of access narrow roads

Fair enough. It must be relatively cheap to hire a tanker driver in Thailand, so smaller tankers probably make sense economically.
