Audio Books on Android

I am going traveling and want to leave my laptop behind.

I have an 8 inch Android tablet but I'm not used to android.

There are 2 main things I need to do with it.

First I use audio-books.I download them, then I run them through inAudible

to remove the DRM then I run them through a paid version of Lossless MP3

Cutter .Can I do all that on Android.

The second thing is that I have a 1TB USB drive that I use on my laptop.

That Won't work on my tablet. What can I bring instead.

Where I'm going I won't have WI-fi in my room.

O.K.... I don't have a SIM card as I don't use a phone with it.

Would it be better for me to get one even though I don't need a phone.

Is there some kind of powered USB drive i can use.

Memory card.  What kind of tablet do you have.  Some have slots for a memory sim and a phone sim.

It's this one Tablet 8'' (4G,CALL) LENOVO TAB4 (8504X) .

It.s my first Android device.I have no idea of the specks but

it's a latest model bought in Thailand.

What would be the biggest memory card I could put in it.

Google is your friend!!!!

Here's one hit -  https://www.gsmarena.com/lenovo_tab_4_8-8602.php    just confirm if it's the correct model as there are others

And IF your 1TB drive has a seperate power supply use an OTG cable https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_On-The-Go

However if you normally power it from your laptop, your tablet won't supply enough power for the drive so you'll need an adapter

Here's one example but I repeat Google is your friend!!!!

As for MP3 players, there are dozens of free Android ones on the Play Store  https://play.google.com/store

I use this one   https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.zorillasoft.musicfolderplayer   on both my Android tablet and my phone.

Google and Play Store are your friends  ????

I've checked properly and the model is Lenovo TB-8504X.

Sorry I should have done that from the start.

My USB Drive is just an ordinary one with  no power. It won't do on the tablet.

I was thinking of leaving it here as a hard copy and buying one that would

have it's own power.

But if I understand you right all I need is one of those adapters.

LAVA SimulCharge USB TL-002 adapter.I will try to find some thing on line

to do that or would I be better buying another USB with it's own power.

Then there's the option to put in a memory card. 500GB would be good enough.

IF you just want to carry your existing files with you and don't want to add any more, this is what I would do but you may disagree:

Look to see how much space your MP3 files take - decide what size memory card you need in the tablet - MAKE SURE YOU GET THE CORRECT SORT. From the link I posted it's a Micro-SD but there are others.

Buy and install the card...FORMAT IT IN THE TABLET AS "PORTABLE" NOT "INTERNAL"  https://www.wikihow.com/Format-an-SD-Card-on-Android (It's better to format the card under Android in the tablet rather than anywhere else - trust me!)

Assuming your laptop has 2 USB ports, plug Disk Drive and Tablet into laptop, tell Android that you want to copy files (it will pop up and ask!)

Copy files from Disk to Tablet...wait...wait ...wait ...wait ...wait  'cos this is not a high speed copy

NOTE Ensure laptop and tablet are plugged into chargers - this MIGHT take a while and you don't want powr downs during copy operations - that leads to disk corruptions!!!!

Put kettle on or prepare dinner.......As I say, it might take a while

Then you can leave both your laptop and your Disk Drive at home.

Obviously if the laptop only has 1 USB port, you'll have to copy from Disk to Laptop then Laptop to Tablet - time consuming but possible.

Right,

I think I will go to a large computer shop and have them install a  memory card

if I can get one with 500GB or more.

My files are MP3 and assorted video file types and I will try to install them.

Thanks a lot,I am a lot wiser than I was before I opened this topic.

You're welcome.

As a final thought, you may as well buy the card and install it yourself. There's usually just a slot on the Tablet to plug it in (with the power OFF of course!)

You MIGHT even have an instruction manual with the Tablet (?)

Did I mention...... Google is your friend?

How do you think I found the threads I posted in this thread.....really!????

Oh my God.....I've just seen a    599gb card om invadeit

http://www.invadeit.co.th/category/memory-cards/1tb/microsd/512gb/

3000 bht.

I also saw OTG cables for 600 bht.http://www.invadeit.co.th/search/otg---card/.

That's a huge price difference.Would that card fit in my tablet, are these the cabled that you recommended.

See my comment about looking at the spec / manual to see if it's the correct card.....that's YOUR job because without the spec and Tablet to hand I can't know.

Likewise the OTG cable which you won't need if you follow my suggestions in #8 You'll be connecting the Tablet to the Laptop using your standard USB cable that you use in the charger - think about it!

Suspect this is overkill as your tablet only supports a maximum of 128 GB in the shared SIM/uSD slot.

Just get one, or two, 128 GB uSD cards, at ~ 650 baht each. That will give you more than enough storage for audio books and days of videos.

Forget the OTG cable unless you want to adapt a USB-style stick.

I've tried a lot of audiobook players and finally settled on https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ak.alizandro.smartaudiobookplayer&hl=en Be aware that the default Sleep mode timer is 10 minutes so turn that off or set it for something greater if used.

I think your version does accept a SIM so you could get one, and enable a mobile data plan which would give you internet connectivity.

The free and best option would be to play the content on your laptop through your Android phone, right?

In a nutshell, install 'Serviio' on your laptop.

Set the content you want to share.

Done.

Install a free DNLA app on your tablet and play the content.

If you are interested in this method, I can provide a more detailed method to get this up and running.

You do realise that the OP said....... "I am going traveling and want to leave my laptop behind" don't you?

I understand he wants to copy his MP3 files to his tablet (or a memory device), then forget about the laptop for his travels.

Just store all your books on Google Drive, and download them as you need them

Did you not read the OP either?

He said he wouldn't have WiFi in his room, although to be fair there may be some connectivity in the area.
