The Election Commission on Thursday disqualified 11 candidates from several political parties as they were either members of two parties or members of the party they represented for less than 90 days.

The commission said four candidates were from Palang Rak Thai, two from Palang Chatthai and one each from Palang Puangchon Thai, Prachatham Thai, Seriruam Thai, Chatpatta and Ruamjai Thai.

None of them was successful in the March 24 general election so no byelections were necessary.

Their votes would not be used in the calculation of the party lists.

When will the Electoral Commission be disqualified for making a complete balls up of the election?

That's even after their all expenses paid globetrotting fact finding junket/mission.

The EC is the embodiment of this incompetent and conniving junta. They are so incompetent they can't even get their electoral jiggery pokery organised properly.

And again Palang Pracharat comes up squeaky clean.

Maybe they were a lot more better at vetting their candidates before the election and were advised by the EC (who they had appointed.)

The other parties are dropping off like flys. Who will be next?

It will be interesting to see who actually won the most seats when the vote counting is over.

Who will be the winner?

That won’t happen.

The election went pretty much as planned.

A distraction from the rampant vote buying and real villains again whilst justifying their existence job done????

TiT, act first, think second.

One way of adjusting the numbers so the party list results go the way they are supposed to.

No detail on this statement even in the link to understand what it means.

  • "None of them was successful' - was that because they didn't get the 70,000 vote minimum to get an MP seat? Surely, that can't be the case as the EC unilaterally modified, allegedly without constitutional authority, the constitutional requirement to a lower vote minimum, saying that all votes should count towards an MP seat. If this is the case the EC has reversed itself.
  • "so no byelections' - but for all votes to count according to the EC, those votes for the now disqualified candidates will not count through no fault of the voting public. A byelection should be necessary to allow voters to re-vote for qualified candidates. It's not the voters fault that the EC couldn't correctly vet the candidates prior to the election!

The only real understanding one is left with from the EC's post-election decisions is that it can't be relied upon for consistent and efficient decisions to be made in preparation for the General Election, regardless of the legality issues that now plague the post-election.

Slowly, the opposition is being silenced. Imagine that, Thailand learning from Cambodia.
