The mortal remains of the Cambodian logger who was shot to death late last month in Thailand has been sent to Cambodia following negotiations between the Cambodian and Thai region military commanders.

Major General Chan Ratha, deputy military commander of Region 5, negotiated with the military commander of Thailand’s Trat province to repatriate the body for a traditional funeral. It arrived at his home in Pursat’s Kravanh District on Thursday (May 3) around 10pm. On April 24, Mao Mom, 26, and another villager, 24 year-old An Vet, illegally crossed into Thailand for logging.

Both were shot – Mao Mom was fatally wounded, and An Vet was hit three times. He survived and is being treated at the hospital in Trat Province. Cambodian and Thai authorities have agreed not to open fire on people crossing the border, mainly because many locals are unaware of the location of the boundary and cross over into Thailand without even knowing it.
