Let's play the blame game and let's not actually do anything. I'm not any better, just stating what I see.

The Thai guy in the OP appears to care quite a lot.  I commend him for speaking up.  And he seems to know what needs to be done, but concedes that it's a complicated problem...i.e., not nearly as simple as some whiney farangs seem to think.  I hate the damn smoke as much as the next guy and hope government officials will listen to khun Naporn.  But saying the Thais who have to breath this crap "don't care" is just plain obtuse.

I'm a farmer also and rotary everything then plow so all the leftovers, grass and weeds can break down and be good for the soil. Its easy and all these farmers have they're fields plowed whether they

My grandfather was a farmer for his entire life (passed at age 98) and he would simply plow the field after the harvest and let it turn to mulch basically prior to the next planting season. Is there n

  • They aren't forced to do anything of the kind. It's their choice and has nothing to do with the big food companies. Farmers not under contract burn. Farmers not planting corn burn. Burning is bad for

Yes but the guys need to blame big agricultural firms otherwise he too loses his support of the farmers. The solutions is not giving farmers more money that will only encourage them to plant more. Strict enforcement and making sure those big agricultural firms don't buy any corn that is burned and / or check farmers that have and ban them from next year.

Sure the big firms have something to do with it too but its the farmers and villagers that set the fires to the forest. Not the big agricultural firms. Good for mushrooms.. the hell with all other people let them die us farmers are more important.

I never had much respect for farmers and it gets less and less with those that burn.

I don't agree with the burning but the farmers you don't respect are growing your food unless you are raising your own ????

They are also making our air unfit to breathe and causing some people to die and others to have a shorter life expectancy

They are also poisoning it with pesticides (not sure if you read the news about vegetables in Thai markets and supermarkets). So why would I have to respect people who only think about themselves ?

Every Phu Yai in every Thai village knows who is burning what. Start by warning them, then heavily fining and jailing Phu Yais when fires happen in their area. They can be relied on to pass the message on.

Never a truer statement has been spoken, those that have to endure the pollution are powerless to do anything! Their "Elected" officials who should be looking after them? are more interested in lining their bank accounts, the Military, they are too busy "ruling" the country, unelected though they may be.

From what I am seeing, going to get a lot worse before it - if ever gets any better.
