Requirements for Thai Citizenship

Featured Replies

I am trying to understand if I can meet all the requirements to qualify for Thai citizenship. I hold a European passport, I’ve 5 years of BOI work permits, I’ve receive a salary and pay income tax in Thailand, married to a Thai, and speak, read and write Thai to a proficient level.

I got married at my wife’s Province in 2016, however, we didn’t get the marriage cert until 2018 as it was requested by a hospital in Bangkok.

My question, is there a requirement to be married for 3 years, and if so, is it taken by the date of issue of the marriage cert, or would a letter from say the head of police at the province confirming the date of our wedding be sufficient for this purpose? There is plenty of proof there to show that the wedding was 2 years earlier than the date of issue of the marriage cert.

Im sorry if this has been covered before, I’ve been searching and can’t find an answer to the question. I don’t want to waste my time with the application if I’m not going to meet the requirements.

Many thanks for any help on this topic
