5G - I'd be happy to accept 0.5G on international downloads.

Recently the down loading speed from iPlayer has been horrendous.
So bad when you try to view and stream a program live, a message comes up Cannot view this specific program at the moment.

Trying to understanding where this problem currently lies:

1.The BBC iPlayer compliant UK servers are operating on a low upload speed.
2. The BBC is in fact throttling it's upload speeds.
3. Thailand is inhibiting it's international down load speeds.
4. I am trying to download at 13:46 Thai time
5. Uploading 06:46 UK GMT time

An insight to what is actually happening please, would be most helpful, especially if there is something that I am not doing at my end, to overcome this downloading speed of 0.5% per minute.

Just logged in to iplayer, via a VPN obviously and with a BBC program running together with TV and another  I am getting 86.2 Mbps download speed . My 3BB contract is for 200/100 but that is for my pc. On my mobile just connecting to iplayer , again via VPN am getting 42.4  and I am out in the sticks.

For me 3BB got very slow for streaming video. Sometimes it's fine, but sometimes unwatchable. This started about 2 weeks ago.

When I run a speed test it shows the same good results as usual. Then why does it get so slow for real downloads? Fake speed tests?!?!

Guess it differs dependent upon where you are and the internet traffic.  What package are you on ? As for speeds pretty similar irrelevant of which speed test I use.

Quite possibly, the BBC is aggressively targetting VPN users, the providers are constantly having to adjust their settings.

@up2you2 which VPN provider are you using?

I thought we weren't allowed to talk about VPNs.

Of course we can talk about VPNs, there is nothing illegal about using them in Thailand.

EXCEPT when they are used to bypass Thai government restrictions, which in this case isn't the case.

I am using Nord, overall I have found it to be excellent. Their support is first class.

Not one which I have experienced, do they have a specific BBC solution? What do their support say?

Today funny enough it is down with them today, so hopefully it might improve.

As far as speeds and performance are concerned, this was an area they were not prepared to discuss or get involved.

Of course generally the speeds and connections have vastly improved over the years, but I was just wondering if throttling is still going on when downloads are entering Thailand, as if so to what degree.

I am using 3BB's basic fiber optic package.

I actually used to use that up to 18 months. I found it to be problematical and very slow speeds. I switched to ExpressVPN and have had no problems, fast speeds and excellent customer service.

I am pleased to hear this, as there is a price difference of 124% over Nord's current three year deal.

When my Nord is actually working with iPlayer, it would be interesting to see exactly the speed and time difference between the two.

I am not disputing what you say, but it may well prove useful for others considering which company and package to go for.

I notice that today get_iplayer is downloading my BBC radio programmes at 0.7Mbs whereas normally this would be 2Mbs (or sometimes 11Mbs). No VPN is needed for that, of course.

So maybe there is currently some more general problem somewhere.

I have been using Nord for a while but for the last month or so, the speeds to the USA servers has been horrible.  It could just be their success has been too much for them to handle.  Their price is great but if it doesn't get fixed I will switch.
