Deputy PM Somkid: Thailand, China strengthen ties in all areas

The Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak, said after a meeting between the Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, and a Chinese Communist Party Politburo member, Li Xi, at Government House, that the visit of the Chinese official is seen as a positive signal and shows the importance of Thailand in the eyes of foreign countries.

Dr. Somkid said China is one of the top importers of Thai agricultural products. In addition, the country is ready to help stimulate tourism in Thailand and the Greater Bay Area (GBA), which comprises cities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.

China will continue to strengthen connectivity between the ASEAN region and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Also known as the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, it is an important strategy to assert China’s presence on the global stage.

With Thailand joining the BRI, it underlines the importance of Thailand in China’s view. Both countries have cooperated in all areas, including economy, technology, science, investment, and tourism.

Deputy Prime Minister Somkid said Thailand is in a great position on the international stage and the country has cordial relations with many countries. He said everything in the country should move in the same direction for the benefits of all Thais.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the Chinese government has never asked the Thai government about the country’s political situation, and both countries will remain as allies. On the continuity of policies after the setting up of a new government, he said the Prime Minister is the same person and this will support the continuity of different tasks, including foreign affairs and other policies.

On this occasion, Gen. Prayut asked the Chinese official to send his regards to the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, and his spouse, and asked the Chinese government to help look after the Thai investors in China.

One morning not too long after I and many TVF members are gone, the Thai population will wake up (like many other countries) one morning and say "oh, we're Chinese now, how and when did that happen"?

It'll just be a "silky" takeover.

Its seems a day doesn't go by without the word '' China '' being made in the Thai news . Sadly this planned relentless march towards the Chinafication of Thailand goes on and the Thai population can't see the inevitable .One day in a hundred years time Thai citizens will look back at their past history with sadness and regret . They will wonder how could they have let it happen,  but its then to late now they have to bow to new foreign masters.

Always a good sign for freedom and human rights.

Especially around the neck.

What is depressing is that Western nations say and do nothing about this. I don't mean about Thailand becoming a province of China. That is assured, and if Thais want it, it's their choice. But Western nations keep pretending that Thailand is somehow still in play, when it's not. Thailand erects enormous trade tariffs against the West--and they go unanswered. Thailand allows for the widespread theft of IP--and the West does nothing. Thailand acts as China's agent within ASEAN on the issue of the South China Sea--and the US, Europe, Japan, and other countries in the region just shrug their shoulders. Thailand enacts a discriminatory visa/extension process against UK, US, and Australian citizens--and those countries don't utter a peep. Somehow Thailand keeps avoiding the sanctions list for trade, human rights abuses, compromised elections, IP, and currency. How? And why?

The China-sponsored Communist insurgency in the 1970's was enough to subvert Thailand.

But it seems Chinese-styled capitalism will.

Wonder how the US State Department is going to react to that.

Is that the Junta deputy PM? or the elected deputy PM?

Equally as bad as the Trump/UK special relationship nonsense.

Probably a wise move, they know the USD will collapse and China/Russia will be the new super powers.

Chinafication of Thailand started a very long time ago. As a Malaysian of ethnic Chinese origin, at first I couldn't understand why so many of my relatives could easily learn spoken Thai until I tried it myself and found out the many Chinese words in the Thai vocabulary.

Doesn’t the fool Somkid realize he will be among the first to be shot when thailand has surrendered to China but then again no great loss.

No argument there. Clowns are renowned for their great stage presence.
