Thailand warns of piranha danger Bangkok, , May. 30 (UPI) -- Thailand authorities are debating more severe penalties for anyone who releases South American red piranhas into the country's waters. So far 112 piranhas have been seized in raids intended to keep the fierce little fish out of Bangkok waterways where some have been released by fish dealers fearing a crackdown, the Bangkok Post reported. The Bangkok Post reported that some fish experts say the red piranhas may not have an easy time surviving in Bangkok rivers and canals, either, because of water pollution or the fact that native species eat other fishes' eggs. Nevertheless, Police Col. Wichit Nanthawong told a news conference that "people who live by the river or canals" should be careful and men, especially, "should cover themselves well" lest piranhas attack certain parts of their anatomy, causing them to "be sorry for the rest of their lives." I love the bit about "covering well" when swimming about in Bangkok canals.
