Bangkok launches 10 fireboats

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) on Wednesday showed off a fleet of 10 fireboats in a parade on the Chao Phraya River.

 

Bangkok deputy governor Sakoltee Phattiyakul presided over the launch at Suan Luang Rama 8 Park in Bang Phlat district. 

 

The 38-foot boats will be commissioned to the Sam Sen and Bovornmongkol fire stations.

 

Also present at the ceremony were BMA Permanent Secretary Silpsuay Raweesangsoon.

The smog is over for now.

These are needed due to the almost constant floods in bkk so the fire brigade can get along the streets to the fires that rage in the wet buildings all the time i guess?

Any other ideas ??

I thought it was very difficult  to set fire to a river so i wonder if these boats are of a design that lends themselves to an easy conversion to a luxurious mimister carrying pleasure craft when someone realises rivers dont burn well  ??

Fireboats ? What are they going to do , pull alongside a fire and use a bucket on a rope to get water from the river to throw at the fire ?

But guess the budget was enough to buy the real ones but by the time 80% got skimmed off by BMA officials then all they were left with was enough money to buy what looks like 10 tenders.  However when the floods come again they can always use them to push the water away ????????

These boats were purchased for their "skimming" opportunity.

And I'm not referring to "skimming" across the water.

What ever happened to the boats that were bought the same time those fire trucks that sat rotting in a paddock a number of years ago

You guys are so cynical. I think it's 'planning ahead' for when those subs have a 'Chinese' glitch and catch fire, run into something or get attacked by the mighty Laos Navy.
