Growing olives in Thailand

I was at a plant market today and saw a guy selling an olive tree (THB 800, approx. 1m high). Anyways, I love olives and was seriously tempted to buy it.

Have any of you guys grown olives here? If so, how are your trees doing?

They might not give much or no fruits at all. Not cold enough (keywords: chilling hour or chilling requirement).

Similar to apples and pear.

That's what I thought too...
What a pity, I love olives!
Probably some exposed highland location would be suitable such as Doi Angkhang.
They're growing subtropical fruits there.
But I'll assume that the majority area of Thailand is not suitable.

It could (most likely) be 'Thai Olive' which is 'Hog Plum'. Totally different, from the Mediterranean you probably are thinking about...

I didn't even know there was a Thai olive... yes, I was only thinking about the Mediterranean olives.

Anyways, I've scratched the idea off my "must get" list.
