snoop1130
Krabi palm-oil factory ordered to fix wastewater leakage problem By Sitthichai Sikhawat, The Nation The Krabi Provincial Industry Office has ordered a palm-oil factory in Krabi’s Khlong Tom district to repair its wastewater treatment system within seven days after polluted water from the plant leaked into a local canal, Palm Pan Lan Co’s factory manager Sopmsak Napradit said on Wednesday. The manager admitted that the earthen dyke of the factory’s wastewater well had collapsed recently due to heavy rainfall, which resulted in the untreated water leaking into the factory compound and then into the canal. Apologising for the incident, the manager said the company, which began buying oil palms from farmers six months ago, will repair the wastewater treatment system in seven days as ordered and rehabilitate the affected area. The Krabi Provincial Industry Office’s engineer for industrial plants, Siwareuk Noorit, confirmed that the earthen dyke had collapsed causing wastewater to be leaked into the canal for up to 3 kilometres. If this issue is left unresolved, he said, it could affect the sub-district’s largest canal, Khlong Pelha, which is why the factory has been ordered to address the problem within seven days. Siwareuk said the authorities will return to re-check the results.
