‘Confident’ Anutin visits hospital to talk up marijuana products

Minister-designated Anutin Charnvirakul yesterday repeated his stance to push forward his marijuana agenda – an announcement deemed by many to reflect his confidence that he will be given the public health portfolio in the new Cabinet.

The Bhumjaithai Party leader has reiterated the party’s policy to make marijuana a new economic crop, as well as sharing his ideas for commercialising the once-universally-illegal plant.

Anutin was speaking during his visit yesterday to a hospital in Prachin Buri province in Thailand’s eastern region. The visit was aimed at creating a better understanding with its staff about future projects related to marijuana-based products, he said.

Chaophraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital has been known for its products based on alternative medicines, even producing a number of marijuana-based potions with permission.

Anutin has also been tipped concurrently as a deputy prime minister in an unconfirmed Cabinet list. A royal endorsement to formally recognise the new Cabinet is expected by the middle of this month.
