PHUKET, Thailand – Over 450 sailors, families and friends from more than 20 countries are set to make Cape Panwa Hotel their home this week as they head to Phuket to take part in the Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek, 17 – 21 July. The kick-off event for the 2019/2020 AsianYachting Grand Prix, Raceweek is set to welcome top sailors from around Asia and beyond, and charterers from as far-a-field as Australia, China and the UK, to compete in four days of high octane racing off Phuket's southeast coast.

Surin Beach’s temporary lifeguards on hold until further notice

PHUKET: The arrival of trained, professional lifeguards at Surin Beach is on hold until contractual issues have been resolved, MaAnn Samran, Chief of the Cherng Talay Tambon Administration Organisation (OrBorTor), has told The Phuket News.

After Phuket student killed by electrocution, officials assure public park areas are safe

PHUKET: Phuket City Municipality has issued a statement assuring that public areas in Suan Luang (King’s Park) are safe, after 18-year-student Khaled Nour died from electrocution after touching a floodlight pole beside a basketball court in the park on Saturday evening (July 13).

Storm weather warning issued for Phuket

PHUKET: The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a storm weather warning for Phuket and the Andaman coast, and the Phuket Marine Office has issued a marine safety advisory calling for all small boats to stay ashore as the fallout from tropical depression “Mun” approaches Thailand from the east is expected to drench Southern Thailand with downpours.

Koh Phi Phi dugong died from a gastrointestinal infection

Another dead dugong was discovered over the weekend off Koh Phi Phi in Krabi province. Department of Marine and Coastal Resources veterinarians have determined the death was caused by stomach infection and chronic inflammation of the intestines.

More currencies in Asia strengthen – Indonesion rupiah crosses major threshold

The Thai baht isn’t the only Asian currency performing well against some of the western currencies. The Indonesian rupiah has strengthened 0.54% to 13,932 to the US dollar yesterday (Monday) from 14,008 on Friday.

PHUKET: The International Surf Lifesaving Association (ISLA) has issued a surf danger warning as Southern Thailand braces for storm conditions following a weather warning issued for Phuket and the Andaman coast, including an advisory from the Phuket Marine Office calling for all small boats to stay ashore.

Stronger baht not keeping tourists away

Customs Dept. admits breaching WTO rules on Philip Morris cigarette imports

Search underway for 4 people after a pavilion collapses into Mae Klong River

Premier calls on motorists to not drive under influence of alcohol during long holiday

BANGKOK, 15 July 2019 (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has called on motorists to not drive under the influence of alcohol on Asalha Puja Day and Buddhist Lent Day, during sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited. Authorities have been instructed to set up road checkpoints to catch drunk drivers and inspect venues for any sales of alcoholic beverages.
