Pattaya EEC projects moving at snail’s pace

n1-J-19-03-EEC-working.jpg

PATTAYA:--Pattaya’s plans to build a downtown tram and cruise terminal continue to plod along as the city continues to angle for government handouts under the Eastern Economic Corridor project.

At a July 19 meeting of Pattaya’s EEC committee, city hall officials and council members were briefed on the major projects proposed for government EEC funding.

Furthest along is the tram project, which could run a loop around Second and Beach roads and into Jomtien Beach. A feasibility study is planned and the team doing that study should be selected by the end of July.

The proposed cruise terminal still is in a primordial stage with the proposal not even presented to government ministries.

Even less has been done on the other projects: further redevelopment of Bali Hai Pier, a Tourism Education Center, a vaguely described “MICE City Phase 2”, and the high-speed rail project linking Bangkok with U-Tapao-Rayong-Pattaya Airport.

Absolutely pathetic. The EEC has been a Junta baby for several years and the Pattaya team hasn't even been selected yet. If it wasn't so pathetic it'd be <deleted> hilarious.

Study?

  • Recently a deputy Pattaya mayor has said that two companies are tendering plans for a light railway or tram project in the eastern seaboard resort.
  • The budget could be as much as 70 billion baht.

A call for TOR and bids for this project apparently will drive the results of any "study."

It's like having the answer without waiting for the question (is it economically feasible?).

A priority would be fixing the drainage and sewer systems before anything else should be even considered.

The world class family resort always knee deep in water after every hour of rain.

That would take someone with brains

Forget the Tram on beach and 2nd road....A zillion baht buses already run that route....

Roll on the trams, get those nuisance baht buses off the road, all they do is stop where they want not in bus bays as designated and use up all the road. Near Hard Rock hotel it's bloody near impossible to drive down Beach Road what with the Baht buses the tourist coaches and the bloody Chinese wandering all over the road
