The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) aims to sign a contract with the bid winner to build Phase 3 of Map Ta Phut port in Rayong worth Bt55.4 billion in September.

The winner is Gulf-PTT Tank consortium of Gulf Energy Development and PTT Tank Terminal.

State authority governor Somchint Pilouk said the IEAT has already submitted a revised draft contract for the consideration of the Eastern Economic Corridor Policy Committee chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Phase 3 of the Map Ta Phut port development – the first stage of development – is one of five key EEC projects. It is expected to go into operation in 2025.

Is the PM the only person in Thailand capable of chairing a committee? This is a contract where it can be expected there will be the usual exchange of tender related envelopes.

Being at the the top guarantees not missing out on any committee benefits that might be forthcoming.
