Having been in Thailand 12 months now I require an eye test, as there is a history of glaucoma in the family I need to be tested for that also do the opticians here do the glaucoma test or would I have to visit a medical facility, I live in Ban Chang so Pattaya through to Rayong area would be fine.

You need to see an opthamologist, normally only found in hospital or large eye clinic (although some operate after hours clinics on their own).  Those selling glasses in Thailand are, with only a few exceptions, salespeople without real medical training.  It is only recently that the optometrist became a medical study field here so most places do not have.  For glaucoma you will want a place that can perform a visual field test and if found control of eye pressure may become important.  Sorry do not know Pattaya area.

The two big hospitals in Pattaya (BPH, International) have eye departments that can do this. Not sure if the smaller or government hospitals do, and I'm not sure that I would trust my eyes to them anyway even if they did.

Other option would be to hop on a bus to Bangkok.

I always get my eyes tested at Boots in the UK every couple of years when I visit. That is a complete eye exam done by a fully qualified specialist in which I have confidence. At the end I get a proper prescription for glasses that can be made up anywhere.

Hello,

I would recomend Pattaya international hospital.. There is a retinist on sundays and "normal" ophtalmologist otherwise in the afternoons..

Anything appearing serious in your tests, go directly to Rutnin eye hospital in Bgk and see Dr Roy

Have a nice afternoon

I went to a clinic here in Pattaya 6 yrs ag as i had a small problem and was told i had a cataract and needed an operation next wk 52k
Anyway went to the Queen Sirikit govt hospital in Satahip ,6 yrs later still dont need cataract operation but was told at the time was in danger of getting gloucoma, as i had high pressure in my eyes, i see a doctor from one of the major hospitals here in Pattaya there ,its really good ,but you do have to wait around, but no problem ,air conditioned ,food courts ,shops ,you need a car and you have to register there ,believe me i get really good results ,cost 900 baht a visit ,plus cost of meds ,if you want to ask me anything pm me.
