Work permit application - so when can I start working?

Featured Replies

Hi! I found a job in Thailand and Im applying for a visa, but obviously there are some steps in the middle. As far as I understand:

1. The employer needs to get the letter from immigration and I need to apply for a non-b visa with that and all my documents outside of Thailand

2. Then I can apply for a work permit in the country already

Can I already start working after getting the non-b visa from the 1. point?

Is the rejection rate high? I have over 4 years of experience (IT) with all references and certificates for it but I dont have a bachelor degree (only high school diploma and a certificate that I dropped out from studying computer science at university after 3 years without getting a diploma).

If I get the non-b visa but they reject the work permit application, can I still work for those 3 months of non-b visa validity?

Thanks a lot!

It's unlikely that your certificates are a problem - at least if they are real.

The application for the work permit requires lots of documents from the company. They must be 100% ok and up to date. This is sometimes a problem - and a problem people don't expect.

As far as I know you are only officially allowed to start working after you have all the documentation. But it seems that is not often enforced.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot! The company has done it many times before so I assume they know what they are doing. I was more worried about my lack of degree and possibility of getting rejected ^^

The certificates are real (although I would probably say the same even if they wouldnt be, haha ????).

1. They will do a WP3 work permit application at the Department of Employment (it is not done at immigration) and send you a receipt for it.

2. Not much you will need to do to have the work permit issued since the WPS was done first.

Apparently it's a BOI approved company - does that make any difference in the visa process?
