Hong Kong's airport reopens on Tuesday after unprecedented closure

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Hong Kong's airport reopened on Tuesday but its administrator warned that flight movements would still be affected, after China said widespread anti-government protests that halted flights a day earlier showed "sprouts of terrorism".

 

The notice was published on the Hong Kong International Airport's official mobile app at 6 a.m. (2200 GMT Monday). The airport, one of the world's busiest, blamed demonstrators for halting flights on Monday.

 

"Hong Kong International Airport will implement flight rescheduling today with flight movements expected to be affected," the notice said.

 

The exact trigger for the airport's closure was not clear because protesters occupying the arrivals hall for the past five days have been peaceful. Most had left shortly after midnight, with about 50 protesters still there on Tuesday morning.

 

A Reuters reporter saw more than 100 travellers queuing up at Cathay Pacific's <0293.HK> ticketing counter early on Tuesday.

The PLA were busy parading their military vehicles around the streets. Escalation is certainly possible.

yeah  why  not  just  get  tanks  and  drive  over  them  you " insert  any  expletive  the  more  vile  the  better"

If you're doing a demonstration on a road, and you're blocking traffic, well, that's not good.

But if people are doing a demonstration at an airport, they're bringing an airport to a halt, well, that's clearly wrong, surely ?

Beijing should give orders to send in riot police, and remove these people. The only reason why Beijing has not yet sent in riot police to do this, is because it looks bad on the world's media. But those tourists and other travellers who are stuck in Hong Kong because of this, or flights being cancelled, who are they angry with ?

I really do reckon that most tourists and travellers do reckon "why is it that these kids have got to do their demonstration when I am flying, why couldn't they do it AFTER I've left Hong Kong".  In other words, the anger is directed at the demonstrators, and I think, rightly so.

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Hong Kong's airport resumed operations on Wednesday, rescheduling hundreds of flights that had been disrupted over the past two days as protesters clashed with riot police in a deepening crisis in the Chinese-controlled city.

Thanks for the above post. So, the airport will be open and normal, on Wednesday ? 
I'm not sure about that. This is because, on Tuesday, the media said that the airport was okay, and then later on, they was saying that flights were being cancelled or postponed.

So, we're not really sure as to what's happening. Let's put it this way. It's Wednesday morning, who wants to book and pay for a flight, that involves getting into Hong Kong Airport, on Friday ? Surely, nobody ?

And for those people who are in Thailand, and if they're finishing their holiday in Thailand, and flying home to Britain on Wednesday or Thursday. If their flight is with Cathay Pacific, they will go to Hong Kong first surely, and then change to go to Britain. Surely, these people are worried that their flight home to Britain might get disrupted ?

The PLA are not on the streets of HK and not parading military vehicles, there. However, they are across the border, in Shenzhen, which is only a 30 minutes drive, into Central, HK.

The PLA were not parading their military vehicles around HK's streets. However, they were lining up armored cars, just across the border, in Shenzhen, which is only a 30 minutes drive, into Central HK.
