Will I have any issues on arrival?

Featured Replies

I am planning a trip to Thailand to visit some friends in October.   In a previous life (i.e. when I was younger and much dumber) I had two overstays in Thailand, don't remember the exact time frame but both were 20,000 baht payments on the way out of the airport.    I haven't been back in about 4 years and am already on a new passport with a few stamps from Vietnam (2 weeks) and Cambodia (1 week).   Will I have any issues going through BKK with a tourist visa?   Any advice?

It's changed a lot in 4 years as they have been cracking down hard on farangs overstaying.

I would think you would be in the system, that said, I am no expert, but would imagine there would be a blackout period for your previous overstays.

Have a read of the link below and good luck.

In theory, if neither overstay was over 90 days, you should be okay. Furthermore, if those overstays were prior to the new regulations ( From 20th March 2016 per the link provided by @4MyEgo ), again in theory, they do not apply. If there was never any stamp in your passport blacklistubg you, then you should be okay.

However, these days they do scrutinize and reject arrivals more than previously. It has been noted that a lot depends on which passport you are carrying. The fact that you have not been in Thailand for 4 years helps, as it appears most of the people who are being scrutinized are those entering Thailand frequently on tourist visas.

Be sure you cover the other requirements: Cash equivalent to 20,000 THB, evidence of an outbound flight, and it helps to show a hotel reservation.

You have zero to worry about with your history.

Come back los and enjoy.

An initial accomm booking (not needed, but won't hurt) and some green in pocket.

Your fine.

For some added context.  The last overstay was in 2015, neither were over 90 days and there's no blacklist stamp (or anything similar) in my old passport.   It's also a US passport if that matters and I had no issues in any other country with that old passport.  I used to be up to date on this site/Thailand immigration news but it's been so long and it seems like the laws/regs change yearly.

Maybe there will be a few questions. It will be better if you are entering with a tourist visa, rather than visa exempt. Very unlikely that you would ultimately be denied entry.
