BMA threatens to fine repeated sidewalk riders Bt3,000

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration threatened Wednesday to slap a Bt3,000 fine on motorcyclists who are caught repeatedly violating the ban on riding on sidewalks.

 

During a meeting of chiefs of BMA regulations enforcement divisions from all 50 Bangkok districts, BMA deputy governor Sakoltee Phattiyakul instructed the heads of the divisions to deploy officials to strictly enforce the ban.

 

The offices were told to raise the fine from Bt2,000 to Bt3,000 if motorists are caught repeatedly violating the ban.

 

Jirawat Paengma, chief of the BMA’s City Regulations Enforcement Department, reported to the meeting that 21,755 motorcyclists were arrested from July 9 last year to August 19 this year for riding on sidewalks in 50 districts. The BMA collected Bt12.59 million as fines from them.

 

Sakoltee told the meeting that he has visited Wang Thong Lang, Watthana, ChatuchakHuai Khwang, , Pom Prab, Bang Khen, Bang Kapi, Bueng Kum, and Lat Phrao districts to observe the enforcement of the ban.

 

Sakoltee said he would re-visit the spots where the BMA has received complaints about motorcyclists riding on sidewalks. He said a lot of complaints were filed against motorcyclists in the Udom Suk and Ramkhamhaeng areas.

Forget the fine, confiscate the bike for 3 months. Ok, and add the fine. lol

Or just pocket 200 baht from the offender and send them on their way!

Poor motorbike taxis, have to pay 100 000s everyday.

Repeatedly? How many times can you get away with it, then?

It was already B5,000 and the BMA put signs up 2 years ago. There was supposed to be a reward of B2,000 if you reported the motorcyclist and sent a photo with reg. The police take no notice and the pavement is breaking up due to the heavy bikes. It's very dangerous to walk on the pavement opposite Paradise Mall, because of the motorcyclists riding on it at great speed. I don't know why they are reducing the fine from B5,000.

Another day , another promise.....Yada Yada Yada..

This is NOT the BMA's responsibility. It is up to the Transport Dept & the police

No problem at all.  Just install one of these at each offending location.  Out of sight, out of mind.

 

Problem solved with American Exceptionalism.  If the rider is caught on more than one bike, you can suggest tossing him in with the 2nd bike.

Does anyone really think they would or can keep records.

Just more talk to avoid actually doing anything

Don't threaten or post the intention just do it....then maybe people will believe
