Pattaya: 4 AM opening is great - but pubs must be "socially responsible"

Featured Replies

Maybe the better idea is to keep an eye on the customers and anyone who looks worse for wear, give them an escort back to their rooms. (Discount bar fine).

Great for business.

And gets those poor unfortunate girls who cannot afford too many clothes, a cosy bed for the night.

    3. An area should be set up where tourists can get a fair price for public transport to take them home.  And all the tuktuk driver will park in front and block those area demanding 500 baht per tr

Next, let’s get rid of the ridiculous time limits on selling alcohol in socially responsible shops and supermarkets!

  • Are you kidding me? Pubs to "keep an eye" on their best clients? Tell them: "You are drunk; please do NOT order any drinks again!"

Of course he would agree....

"4 AM opening is great - but pubs must be "socially responsible".

      Don't you mean 4 AM...Closing?

Does it really matter when the only people there are the hoards of Chinese tourists being paraded up and down Walking street?

There is no reason bars should be open till 4 a. m. More drunks, more fights and more deaths on the road.

You can stay home and do a few lines.

Moving the deck chairs from port to starboard on the titanic.

Excellent news.

But!!! They must stop the overcharging.

It is cheaper to drink in New York, Sydney or London (so I am told)

A friend visiting quickly packed his bags and went to Cambodia because of the ridiculous prices in Thailand.

It is easy to spend a couple of hundred dollars per person for a  night out on drinks. Multiply that by 14 nights add in the cost of food, bar girls drinks, a decent bar girl, taxi, flight and the hotel. It is an expensive holiday (for nothing special) for the average single guy.

I am told this by many single guys who are simply not visiting this fantastic Kingdom any longer.

You should never tell a drunk person to do anything.

Exactly,i used to own a bar and you know there is going to be a fight when you tell a drunk he is being cut off.

give him another beer and he is happy!!!

If this idea of 4 am is approved then things must be bad as the the Thai killjoy squad policy lobby (which the PM is a fully signed up member of) would never go for it otherwise.

why does it say 4 am opening I thought they close at 4 am

TIT....have you been here long?

"pubs and clubs should have alcohol testing stations"

Unbelievable - Amazing Thailand! For Thais as well? Can you imagine a boozing tourist, or ex-pat, in a bar playing pool with a Thai lady (I will be polite on this) having to go and check in a "breathalyser' machine every time he wants another beer!

Who is zooming who?  They offer prostitution.  Social responsibility has already flown out the gate at supersonic speed.

Yes of course all the bars will stop patrons drinking - and from ordering additional lady drinks.  ????... what vague optimism

Sorry deluded Thai government office dwellers but the social responsibility boat sailed a long time ago when mass greed turn up.

2. The clubs should have alcohol testing stations to determine when patrons are over the limit.

So, plastic cup and litmus papers all round then

no That would be more honest if it read brothels should be more socially responsible, nobody goes there just to drink beer.

True I go to listen to some very god bands that play there. Hot Tuna bar is a good night put. I take the gf with me so no need for brothel service.

What do you have against brothels anyway?

Another wonderful plan.

What could go wrong?

Best thin g to happen apart from 24 hour trading. The worst case is all pubs/clubs closing early and hundreds of people all spilling out on the street at the same time. Recipe for trouble. Some parts of Australia trialled late closing - say 4 am to keep it relevant. BUT you cannot get in after 2am. So if you leave a club after 2 you can't get into another one. You can stay till 4 if you don't leave. The rationale behind this was to avoid the mass crowds all on the street at the same time.

Your wasting your time, a lot of ex Pats have left here who drink in the bars, and living now in social place overseas with less hassels, where there is no BS with the problems we see here. They have done a good job, getting us to leave. Now, lets face it, no chinese, indians go to bars at all. This will be a ghost town very soon here in Pattaya, its almost there now. Good luck to the nob heads that have organised this stiuation.

Will all those who predict chaos be around at 4am to see it?

I don't think anything will change at all.

No it will be cocoa and slippers by 9:30pm after a good solid day whining on TVF for most.

Licensees should be prosecuted for serving drunken people and drivers for driving with excess alcohol. Both are the job of the police in a civilised country.

I think you be more comfortable in police state Australia.

Slowly Thailand is becoming “civilised, expensive and westernised “

"Damrongkiat believes that Walking Street is the best place to set up a pilot scheme for extending the opening hours to 4 am.

The area is easy to control safety-wise and is a "landmark" in Pattaya, he said."

No problem with the Walking Street until 4. But please not everywhere in Pattaya. All these open air bars create a lot of noise and there are many people who want to sleep - hotel customers, people who have to work, children who have to go to school or simply need to sleep early and many other residents. And only 1 noisy open air bar is enough to disturb hundreds of people.

Pubs and club must not allow any under 20's to drink in their establishments.

That's a great idea. Only over 20' shall die in road accidents caused by alcohol drinking ????
