Storm in a teacup? Prayut overreacts while the met office says it's all rumor!

Thai caption: Storm has yet to reach Thailand

The Meteorological Department has dismissed as unfounded rumor that tropical storm Podul will devastate the north of Thailand this coming weekend.

Media including a best selling English language newspaper reported on Wednesday that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha had ordered all hands to the pump to prevent a disaster after the met office issued a warning about five days of drenching.

But they said it didn't come from them. They issued a denial saying that the public should only believe their pronouncements and not be fooled by rumor.

They still admitted that parts of the north and north east will experience medium to heavy rain from the storm that is heading in Thailand's direction.

Its effects are likely to hit the north east first starting today and continuing until Saturday.

The forecast indeed predicts large amounts of rain for North East starting from tonight until Saturday morning. Flash floods are possible, hopefully the rain will replenish the dams and alleviate the drought conditions. The North will experience a lot of rain on Friday and Saturday.

With the exception of the radar these images and projections are from the US and Japanese.

If this eventuates and turns out to be a good thing and dams are replenished there will be no surprises when the Frog Whisperer takes the credit for making it happen.

He is just making sure that precautions are taken in case he whispers too loudly and he causes some flooding by mistake.

From what I see of the north its devastated already ????

Currently raining in Yasothon where we already have some localised flooding so a good deluge could cause some problems.

Where?

Most sois in Pattaya; Sukhumvit from Pattaya Nua to Klang; Kao Noi Kao Talo on the dark side.

Started raining now, near Nakhon Phanom/Sakon Nakhon border.

South Surin has had excellent non-flooding rains for the last week - short downpours followed by steady rain or drizzle, on & off, on & off.

They need it for sure... but not all in 3 days, that will just cause flash floods and destruction.

Hope people are listening and preparing for the worst even if it fizzles out.
