The US government downgraded its diplomatic relations with Thailand following the coup in 2014 , which overthrew the government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.  Bilateral relations have, however, steadily been returning to normal since this year’s general election in Thailand and the formation of an elected government.

The United States looks forward to cooperating with Thailand in all areas, said Peter Haymond, the outgoing US chargé d’affaires.

Mr. Haymond, who assumed his role as the chargé d’affaires in October 2018, paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan on Wednesday morning to bid farewell at the end of his tour of duty in Thailand.  He also introduced his successor, Mr. Michael Heath, to the deputy prime minister.  Heath is the former US consul general in Chiangmai who speaks influent Thai and is married to a Thai.

as if there aren't enough problems, the us comes back to make things worst,if that was possible.

So the spams have been sleight-of-handed by the generals in suits.

Ah yes, Chinese influence would be so much better.  Sarcasm.

So can get rid the tm30 for a favor?

Everything is hunky-dory in Thailand now. We have a marvellous, fair and just government and a wholly benign power structure (the two Burmese boys have just been officially confirmed as the murderers and rapists of the two Brits on Koh Tao, and the death penalty definitively imposed on those über-powerful Burmese monsters); we have enjoyed a wonderful, free and fair election (quite honestly, it should be a model for all other nations to follow - they can learn from Thailand); and we have a general rule of law that is second to none.

It would make me proud to be a Thai or an American  - or a Brit!

Carry on Regardless!!!

I'd  wonder just much Heath still feels done Wong by?

- no longer having Dimplomatic Immunity from TM30s?

that was an easy one, it only took the purchase of 120 armoured vehicles

Most certainly, buying 120 used army vehicles from USA goes a long way to normalizing the relationship.

But what if those vehicles had been bought from China instead? Would the same USA / Thailand relationship normalization have taken place?

Go figure!

Okay, do we get our income letter affidavit back?

The way Ronny Regan (yep, a b grade actor got more cred than DT OMG !! ????????) used this phrase it seems to have far more credibility that how DT uses it lol.

Make American a cracker racist icon you mean lol lol ????

Next thing will be another trumped up (excuse the unintended pun) war to garnish patriotic fervour so the fat cats in Washington and elsewhere can make a few billion to share before DT and the rightist hawks have to leave office.

This is just the start google and amazon will bring operations here into the new silicon valley in sri racha and many US and EU corporate workers will begin moving to the nicer climate and beautiful beaches to enjoy this wonderful land of abundance

Keep the wheels turning lets make thailand great!

Maybe PM Prayut and President Donald have exchanged some beautiful letters praising each other and Donald just hasn't tweeted about it yet.

Coincidentally didn't they just take delivery of the first batch of armed vehicles? Oops sorry wrong thread.

Mr Heath should know from his experience here what makes the general tick????

my thoughts exactly

The US must have finally realised that Thailand is the power at the centre of the universe and not the back water, 3rd world cesspit that we thought it was.....or know it is.

Trump thinks of Prayut by association every day I'm sure. Just before he flushes.

Relations should have never been publicly interrupted in the first place.
