By The Bira International Circuit in Pattaya has been a well-known venue for motorsports events for over 30 years, but this month the 2.41-km racetrack will be hosting a different kind of race.

Piti Bhirombhakdi, a well-known entrepreneur and race driver, is staging “Run with Todd” for the second year. The charity event will be held on September 21 by Singha Corporation Co Ltd.

The public is invited to experience running on the legendary Bira Circuit track, which features a long straight, treacherous uphill and downhill corners, a long sweeping turn and two chicanes.

There are two categories, both using mororsports formats. The solo event takes place over three laps (7.23kms in total) and the first to cross the finish line wins. In the endurance race, each team comprises of 2 or 3 runners to cover the 3-lap race.

Organisers said the proceeds from the event will be forwarded to the Piti Bhirombhakdi Foundation before being distributed to other charitable organisations.

Applications can be made at http://go.eventpop.me/Run-with-Todd-2019. Apart from the run, participants also get a souvenir shirt and coin, bib with timing chip, food and drinks coupon, and finish off the day with an exclusive concert (1 follower is allowed).

A charity for charities.

Charities are well known for taking a much bigger cut than those they are supposed to be helping

I hate to think, with the double filtering, just how much actually seeps down to the people who need it

No doubt these events will completely turn Pattaya around, will defy all trends relating to tourism, will negate 10 years of bad publicity due to recklessness on the part of the government, and will change things overnight. No hard work needs to be done, no reform of the hateful and xenophobic people at immigration, and no need to look within for the source of any problem. Just hold some races. Why did they not think of that earlier. Genius stuff.

I love irony. But actually I think the assault on the word record for a line of pencils will  do all that first.

The new Education minister will have a crack-down on the length of shorts & the size of vests among the female contestants.

Instead of holding races, they could just lower the Baht...it would help tourism immensely.

Yes, except when I have to take time out to explain to numtpies that it isn't uncommon for charities to pocket, for themselves, over 90% of what they collect. In order to get it into their thick heads that the purpose of a charity may not always be what it seems.

Obviously people of such limited ability are unable to calculate that, in such scenarios as this, the intended recipients could well end up with well under 1% of the original sum.

then again, I may be wrong: charities don't operate in this manner and no one could be that dumb.

I find your post quite ironic, given your TV username.  ????
